The Right Process for Your Enclosure

The best manufacturing process depends on your required quantity, material, and design complexity.

3D Printing

The fastest and most affordable way to create custom enclosures for prototyping. Ideal for complex or organic shapes and for quickly testing the fit of internal components. SLS and MJF Nylon provide excellent durability for functional prototypes.

CNC Machining

The best choice for high-quality prototypes and low-volume production enclosures. Machining from a solid block of plastic or metal provides superior strength, precision, and surface finish. It is the standard for premium electronic housings.

Sheet Metal Fabrication

A highly cost-effective method for creating durable enclosures from aluminum or steel. Ideal for rack-mount equipment, industrial control boxes, and other applications where complex 3D curves are not required. Parts are cut, bent, and welded or fastened together.

Designing Features for Your Enclosure

  • Mounting Bosses: We can create integral bosses for mounting your PCB and other internal components.
  • Connector Openings: Precise openings for USB, power, audio, and other connectors are easily machined for a perfect fit.
  • Venting: Add custom ventilation slots or patterns to allow for airflow and cooling of internal electronics.
  • Sealing Grooves: For waterproof enclosures, we can machine grooves for O-rings or gaskets to create a reliable seal.
  • Threaded Inserts: We install durable brass inserts to allow for repeated assembly and disassembly of your enclosure.

Custom Enclosure FAQ

What is the most cost-effective way to make a simple box enclosure?

For a simple rectangular box, sheet metal fabrication is often the most cost-effective method. A design that can be cut from a single flat pattern and then bent into shape will be significantly cheaper than machining the same box from a solid block of aluminum.

How can I add text and logos to my enclosure?

We offer several options. For machined parts, we can engrave text and logos directly into the surface. For a more colorful or detailed result, we offer silk screening and pad printing services as a secondary operation after manufacturing.
